UGT demands an improvement of the Employment Law to provide a solution to the long-term unemployed

MADRID, 19 Ago. (EUROPA PRESS) -

The General Union of Workers (UGT) has pointed out that it is "essential" to improve the Employment Law to promote more effective employment policies that end the situation experienced by the long-term unemployed.

The union, through a statement, has opted to carry out policies that adapt to "the specific reality of each person" and thus achieve "their rapid reintegration into the workplace." Specifically, they have expressed that, in their opinion, the current Employment Law is "insufficient", since it does not have social dialogue and does not include "effective" measures.

According to data from the Active Population Survey (EPA), 1.5 million people have been looking for a job for more than a year and more than 600,000 have been doing so for more than four years. "Despite the excellent unemployment figures, the data on the long-term unemployed is alarming. A fair, inclusive and developed society cannot assume a figure of more than two million people without the hope of development worthy of its State of Welfare", they have expressed from UGT.

Thus, among the measures they propose is an increase in funding to "adequate and sufficient" levels and include "binding" criteria for the application of said Law in the different territories of the country.

In addition, the union has denounced that the two instruments of active employment policies (services and programs) are "essential" to know the needs of each of the unemployed people and, however, in practice they are not being implemented .
