UGT asks to implement the compulsory continuous day in summer in construction

MADRID, 18 Jul. (EUROPA PRESS) -

The Federation of Industry, Construction and Agriculture of the UGT (UGT-FICA), has urged the negotiating committee of the VII general construction agreement to begin negotiations to implement the compulsory continuous day in summer in all construction works in the territory Spanish.

"The latest deaths that have occurred at work as a result of the heat waves that are affecting the peninsula force us to adopt urgent measures to avoid more deaths of workers that can be absolutely preventable," the union has denounced.

From UGT-FICA they consider it "undeferrable" to establish continuous sessions and in the morning that, taking advantage of the less hot hours of the day, can conclude at a reasonable hour without risk to workers in the sector.

These measures are already working in most of the provinces of Andalusia, Extremadura, Castilla La Mancha and Madrid. However, the latest episodes of extreme heat are becoming more and more common phenomena in Spain, due to global warming, so they understand that they must be of a general nature.

In addition, the union has insisted that the continuous working day must be accompanied by the reinforcement of article 166 of the general agreement of the construction sector (which regulates atmospheric factors), so that workers acquire the necessary training to be able to detect blows of heat and take the necessary measures to avoid negative effects on your health.

"For UGT-FICA, the safety and health of workers is a priority that must prevent accidents at work such as those derived from heat stroke. With determination and flexibility on the business side, we can improve working conditions and put an end to accidents absolutely avoidable," the trade union organization has sentenced.
