Transparency urges Yolanda Díaz to report the cost of her trips and clarify who paid for the Vatican

MADRID, 25 Jul. (EUROPA PRESS) -

The Transparency Council has urged the Ministry of Labor to report the cost of the trips of the minister and also the second vice president of the Government, Yolanda Díaz, and as well as to clarify whether the one she made to the Vatican to meet with Pope Francis last month December was paid for with public funds.

This is the opinion of the body in charge of ensuring compliance with the Transparency Law when estimating the claim presented by the person who requested that information after the Ministry of Labor refused to provide it.

The applicant wanted to know the cost of the trips made by the minister between October and December 2021, but the department headed by Díaz alleged that this information was still in "the course of preparation or general publication."

In its resolution, collected by Europa Press, the Transparency Council, maintains that the ministry did not justify "expressly and in detail the concurrence of the alleged cause of inadmissibility, since the mere affirmation that the expenditure files are being processed does not seem sufficient in this sense and leads to a disproportionate limitation of the right".

In addition, it underlines that "the requested information refers to trips that have already been made, so the information or data on the cost must appear in some way" and can be published, regardless of whether the expense files are not completed or there are items to be added.

For all these reasons, it rejects the arguments of the Ministry of Labor and gives it ten days to send the applicant information on the cost of the trips she was interested in.

To the specific question about the visit to the Vatican, Labor limited itself to informing the petitioner that "the trips made by the Second Vice President and Minister of Labor and Social Economy are governed by the applicable administrative regulations."

Transparency censors that response, pointing out that this "generic reference" to the applicable regulations "does not provide specific information on what was requested." For this reason, it also urges Labor to correctly satisfy the demand for information sent by the citizen.
