Those selected by Moncloa to speak before Sánchez: a domestic worker, a retiree, two young people and a teacher

They ask about the unemployment of domestic workers, climate change, pensions, women's rights and childhood obesity

MADRID, 5 Sep. (EUROPA PRESS) -

The five citizens chosen by Moncloa to intervene this Monday before the President of the Government in the act of beginning the political course are a domestic worker, a retired teacher, two students and a Physical Education teacher who have expressed their concern regarding various topics: the right to strike for domestic workers, the purchasing power of pensions, climate change, equal rights between men and women and childhood obesity.

Moncloa has chosen this format to return to activity after the summer break, inviting fifty citizens to the presidential complex, of which five have taken the floor to address the president. The act is in contrast to those of previous years, in which Sánchez had gathered businessmen to start the course.

The first to intervene has been a domestic worker who has demanded the right to unemployment for her sector, which she has considered even more necessary in the current climate of high inflation and instability. In this sense, Sánchez has announced that the Council of Ministers this Tuesday will approve the recognition of the unemployment subsidy for domestic workers, thus putting an end to an absolutely unacceptable injustice, as she has indicated.

The two young students have conveyed their concern and that of "an entire generation" about climate change, they have warned of its consequences this summer in the forest fires that have devastated the country and have called for a commitment to renewable energy.

For her part, the retired teacher has expressed her concern about the purchasing power of pensions, to which Sánchez has responded that updating them with respect to the CPI is guaranteed by law. Finally, the physical education teacher has emphasized the problem of childhood obesity and Sánchez has indicated that it is related to the inequality and poverty suffered by 2 million minors in Spain.

All of them have been selected from among those who have sent letters to the Presidency throughout this legislature to transmit complaints, requests or concerns. Since 2019, the institution has received 250,000 communications that have been answered in full, according to Moncloa sources.

The same sources have explained that they have selected different social profiles to speak before Sánchez and therefore have taken into account criteria of age, gender, profession and place of origin so that the representativeness was greater. They have also indicated that none of them is a militant or close to the government.

The citizens who have spoken came from: Córdoba, Cullera (Valencia), Santa Coloma de Gramanet (Barcelona), Rivas (Madrid) and Tomelloso (Ciudad Real). They have made brief interventions -of little more than 10 minutes in total-, in which there have been no critical voices with the action of the Executive, while Sánchez has delivered a speech of about forty minutes.

Regarding the topics discussed, from Moncloa they point out that they knew them previously based on the communications that these citizens had transferred, although there has been no prior control of the speeches of each one. Thus, they have indicated that topics have been chosen that have been constantly present throughout the legislature and that respond to citizen concerns as indicated by the CIS.

Along these lines, they recognize that there are many other issues on which Moncloa has received letters and emails, although they point out that they increase a lot when these issues are current and the media echo them, although they later plummet when they disappear from the front pages.
