The week of July 12, the most likely scenario for the Debate of the Nation

MADRID, 28 Jun. (EUROPA PRESS) -

The week of July 12 is emerging as the most likely for the Congress to convene the Debate on the State of the Nation, an event that has not been held since 2015 and that the Government has promised to hold next month.

For the convening of this debate, the Government must send a communication to Congress, something that has not yet taken place. From then on, it will be the president of the Chamber, Meritxell Batet, who will set a date for it.

At this time, and according to the calculations of the parliamentary groups, the most foreseeable scenario is that the debate be convened for Tuesday, July 12, and last until Thursday. Likewise, it is possible that on that last day, in addition to the dozens of resolutions presented by the groups as the culmination of the debate, they will vote, among other things, on the validation of the new anti-crisis decree approved by the Council of Ministers last Saturday, they have reported. parliamentary sources.

According to that calendar, the Debate on the State of the Nation would start on Tuesday the 12th, around noon, with the intervention of the President of the Government, Pedro Sánchez. Of course, for this it would be necessary to advance the weekly Council of Ministers, which in this legislature is held on Tuesday mornings. After the president there would be a recess and the session would resume in the afternoon for the debate with the opposition parliamentary groups, one by one and from higher to lower.

The debate would continue on Wednesday the 13th, with the groups that had not had time to debate with Sánchez the day before and, the following day, the resolutions of the parliamentary groups would be put to a vote, a hundred texts that serve to measure the strength or weakness of a government in Parliament.

Given the time that has elapsed since the last Debate on the State of the Nation, the July meeting will mark the premiere of United We Can, Vox and Citizens, since in 2015 none of these formations still had parliamentary representation. It will also be the first time that Pedro Sánchez rises to the rostrum of this debate as President of the Government, since in 2015 he was leader of the opposition against Mariano Rajoy.

The forecast is that, also on Thursday the 14th, the Plenary will vote on the validation of the new anti-crisis decree, approve the opinion of the Constitutional Commission on the Democratic Memory Law, and debate and approve the PSOE's bill to send it to the Senate to empower the General Council of the Judiciary (CGPJ) to appoint the two corresponding magistrates of the TC.
