The United States Senate approves reform of the climate and tax law

MADRID, 7 Ago. (EUROPA PRESS) -

The United States Senate has approved this Saturday to process the Inflation Reduction Act, a bill from the Democrats that reforms the tax code and addresses climate change.

The Upper House has notified 51 votes in favor against 50 against, after the vice president of the country and president of the Senate, Kamala Harris, went to the Capitol to cast the tiebreaker vote, the newspaper 'The Hill' has reported.

Harris has requested, after the vote, the approval of the law. "I just cast the tie-breaking vote to start the debate on the Reduce Inflation Act. This bill will reduce health care and prescription drug costs for families and address the climate crisis. Let's get it done," he said. Twitter social network account.

Along the same lines, Senator Mazie Hirono has indicated that the Democrats must unite to approve this "historic legislation" that --"without the help of the Republicans"-- will reduce costs and address current challenges such as climate change or inflation.

For its part, the group of Republican senators (SRCC) has criticized the measure. "The Democrats' so-called inflation bill won't reduce inflation at all. It's a reckless tax and spending spree that will actually make inflation even worse in the short run," they tweeted.

Senators have agreed to vote against all proposed amendments to his bill. Senator Cory Booker has declared to 'The Hill' that "a large number" of Democrats have adhered to the strategy of rejecting all the amendments with the aim of preventing the aforementioned law from going forward.

"So there is a large number of us and a growing number of us who will do everything we can to defend the most historic bill in the history of the United States on climate change, the most important bill in my lifetime for prescription drug costs and an incredible bill that is going to help increase overall energy and health care costs for Americans."
