The United Nations has assured this Friday that it trusts that the elections this Sunday in Colombia will be held in an "environment of respect and free of violence", as well as "in a participatory and inclusive manner".

The United Nations has indicated in a statement that it values ​​the democratic tradition of the country, as well as its institutional solidity, for which it hopes that the political rights of citizens and their representatives will be guaranteed.

This Sunday, May 29, Colombians will go to the polls to elect the country's new head of state, a decision for which the polls show a technical tie between the candidates of the Historical Pact and Team for Colombia, Gustavo Petro and Federico 'Fico' Gutiérrez. , respectively, in the second round of the presidential elections.

The study, collected by the newspaper 'El Tiempo', grants 37.9 percent to Petro in the first round, ahead of 'Fico', who would obtain a little less than 30 percent.
