The number of civilians killed since the start of the war in Ukraine has risen to 4,302, while the number of wounded now stands at 5,217, according to the latest balance released by the Office of the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights.

"From 04:00 on February 24, 2022 (...) until midnight on June 8, the UN has registered 9,519 civilian victims in the country: 4,302 dead and 5,217 wounded," the agency said in a statement.

Among the deceased are 1,639 men, 1,075 women, 100 girls, 105 boys, as well as 1,316 adults and 67 minors pending identification. Regarding the injured, 1,065 are men, 727 women, 120 girls and 149 boys. Another 2,986 adults and 170 minors injured and pending identification have also been registered.

In the Donetsk and Lugansk regions in the east of the country, 2,493 people have lost their lives, while another 2,979 have been injured. The text specifies that, in the territory controlled by kyiv, 2,339 deaths and 2,326 injuries have been registered, while in the areas under the control of the pro-Russian separatist forces, 154 people have died and another 653 have been injured.

In the rest of the territory under the control of the Ukrainian government, 1,809 civilians have died and another 2,238 have been injured. "The majority of recorded civilian casualties have been caused by the use of explosive weapons with a wide impact area, including heavy artillery shelling and multiple launch rocket systems, as well as air and missile attacks," the report states. which indicates that the figures could be much higher.
