The Ukrainian state operator confirms the partial reconnection of the Zaporizhia NPP to the national grid

MADRID, 26 Ago. (EUROPA PRESS) -

The Ukrainian state energy operator, Energoatom, confirmed this Friday the partial reconnection of the Zaporizhia nuclear power plant to the country's electricity grid thanks to the reactivation of one of its power units.

"One of the units of the Zaporizhia plant that was turned off the day before was reconnected to the electrical network" this Friday at 2:04 p.m. (one hour less in mainland Spain), Energoatom announced on its Telegram channel.

The reconnected unit "is already producing electricity to meet Ukraine's needs, and the power increase is in progress."

However, Energoatom has refrained from commenting "on the operation of the equipment and security systems."

Finally, the operator applauded the civilian employees who work at the plant as "true heroes" who guarantee "the nuclear safety of Ukraine and all of Europe."

The fighting between Russian and Ukrainian forces in the vicinity of the Zaporizhia nuclear power plant forced its disconnection from the Ukrainian electricity grid on Thursday, an unprecedented measure that exacerbates security concerns.

The plant was already only connected to the network by one of the four enabled points before the region became the scene of fighting between Russian and Ukrainian forces, something that the International Atomic Energy Agency had already warned about ( IAEA).
