The Supreme files the complaints of the Generalitat and Junts against Casado for their statements about Catalan

MADRID, 14 Jun. (EUROPA PRESS) -

The Supreme Court (TS) has filed the lawsuits filed by the Generalitat and Junts per Catalunya (JxCat) against the former president of the PP Pablo Casado for alleged crimes of libel, slander and incitement to hatred, based on his statements about Catalan in the school, considering that the court has lost jurisdiction because Casado is no longer qualified.

In an order dated June 1, to which Europa Press has had access, the Criminal Chamber declares itself incompetent to study said complaints, given that its competence "was determined exclusively by Mr. Casado's status as appraised, derived from the position he held" as a deputy in Congress

The Second Chamber recalls that Casado left the seat on April 4, as well as that "parliamentary immunity, as a procedural privilege that it is, must be interpreted and applied with an exhaustive and restrictive character."

Consequently, it indicates that, "once the reason for attributing jurisdiction to the Second Chamber has expired, it is appropriate to file the complaints filed, without prejudice to the right of the complainants to reproduce their petition before the corresponding body."

The Generalitat sued Casado for alleged crimes of libel and slander after the former leader of the PP said that in Catalonia teachers are instructed not to let children who speak Spanish go to the bathroom.

"There are red lines that cannot be crossed and if they are crossed they will find the Government of the Generalitat fighting them," said the spokeswoman for the Catalan Executive, Patrícia Plaja, at a press conference.

Added to this complaint were those filed by JuntsxCat and Roser Díaz Puig for alleged crimes of libel, slander and incitement to hatred for the same statements.
