The Spanish military deployed in Turkey, safe after the earthquake suffered on the border with Syria

MADRID, 6 Feb. (EUROPA PRESS) -

The Spanish contingent deployed in Turkey has not been affected by the earthquake suffered this Monday in the south of the country, near the border with Syria, in which more than 600 people have died.

Spain has a deployment of 150 soldiers in the Turkish town of Adana, at the Incirlik air base, with a Patriot anti-missile battery that protects Turkish soil from possible missiles from Syria.

"Tranquility for the families of our contingent in Adana (Turkey). They are fine, fulfilling their mission, as always," the Ministry of Defense reported a few hours after the earthquake.

The Department led by Margarita Robles has taken the opportunity to convey all its solidarity with the population of Turkey and Syria "in these terrible moments."

The Government has also reported that the Military Emergency Unit (UME) has already been activated to collaborate in search and rescue work after the earthquake.
