The Sentencing Court of La Paz has declared this Tuesday a new recess until this Wednesday in the oral trial of the case 'Coup d'etat II', for which the former president of Bolivia Jeanine Áñez is summoned to testify, after on Monday determine a similar recess due to an alleged indisposition of the former president.

On this occasion, the prosecutor in charge of the case, Omar Mejillones, has reported that the Court has made the decision after the hearing took too long, so it has announced a recess until the next day at 2:00 p.m. ( local time), as reported by the Bolivian newspaper 'El Diario'.

"The Court is going to order a recess until tomorrow at 2:00 p.m. (local time), by virtue of the fact that tomorrow we have an oral trial hearing scheduled," explained the president of the First Sentencing Court of La Paz, according to has collected the Bolivian Information Agency (ABI).

During the hearing held this Tuesday, the Prosecutor's Office and the Bolivian Ministry of Government have presented their allegations and have substantiated their accusation against Áñez. In addition, the Prosecutor's Office has assured that the former chief of the General Staff, Flavio Arce; and the former head of the Army, Pastor Mendieta, had a plan prepared for the former president to take power.

For this reason, both the Prosecutor's Office and the Ministry of Government have requested 15 years in prison for the former president of Bolivia and for the two high-ranking officials of the Bolivian Armed Forces, according to the newspaper 'La Razón'.

This Wednesday will be the turn of the Ombudsman and the Upper House of Bolivia, who will present their allegations against the former president for the 'Coup d'etat II' case.

Áñez is accused in the context of what happened in November 2019, when the then president, Evo Morales, left office and, just two days later, Áñez herself, then a senator, assumed the Presidency of Bolivia.

These events are part of a judicial case called 'Coup d'etat I' and 'Coup d'état II'. This second is already in the oral trial phase, in which Áñez and eight other people are prosecuted for decisions contrary to the Constitution.
