The Russian Justice rejects the appeal of the journalist Yuri Dud and maintains that he is a "foreign agent"

MADRID, 7 Jul. (EUROPA PRESS) -

The Russian court in Lefortovo on Thursday rejected the appeal filed by the journalist and blogger Yuri Dud against the decision of the Ministry of Justice to include him in the list of "foreign agents".

"The request has been denied," the Moscow court said, according to information from the Interfax news agency. According to the activist, the Russian authorities had not notified him of his inclusion on the list, which places him on the same level as foreign media working in the country.

In his lawsuit, Dud claimed that the Justice Ministry's decision was "illegal" since he had not been notified of his inclusion in the registry. However, the court has clarified that the journalist's legal team had also requested to be excluded from said list, on which he has appeared since April 15.

At the end of June, the Lower House of the Russian Parliament approved a new law on the regulation of the activities of foreign agents in the country, which tightens existing regulations and puts new pressure on the media and NGOs.

With this new regulation, foreign agents are prohibited from teaching in public schools and universities, carrying out educational activities with minors and receiving state funding even for this type of act.
