It will be the central act of a campaign to commemorate the 40th anniversary of the great socialist triumph

MADRID, 12 Oct. (EUROPA PRESS) -

The President of the Government and Secretary General of the PSOE, Pedro Sánchez, will take part in a rally in Seville together with former President Felipe González to commemorate 40 years since the socialist victory in the general elections on October 28, 1982, as confirmed by sources from the Executive Federal to Europa Press.

The event will take place in the Andalusian capital on Saturday, October 29, and several ministers from the González governments are also expected to attend, as a tribute to a time of political dominance by the PSOE, which won by a large absolute majority in 1982 and He remained in power for 14 years.

The meeting in Seville is going to be the most important in the campaign of events that prepares the match for several Spanish cities, including Madrid and Barcelona, to highlight this historic date for the match. This city, in addition to the birthplace of Felipe González, is essential for the electoral future of the party, which faces a year 2023 with municipal and regional elections in May and general elections a few months later.

The Socialists have increased their presence in the town in recent weeks and it was precisely the starting point of the 30-act tour in which Sánchez seeks to get closer to his electorate and explain the government's action.

Beyond Seville, events will also be held in Madrid, where the idea they contemplate in the party involves carrying out activities at the party's national headquarters on Ferraz Street. Along these lines, they are studying, among other things, setting up an exhibition and screening a documentary, always with the 'leitmotif' of the great victory of 1982 in the background.

In Barcelona there will be another act with the PSC and the same will happen in other locations throughout the national geography. In total, the celebration of the 40th anniversary of Felipe's triumph will last for about five days, according to the sources consulted.

The Socialists will turn to this anniversary which was a historic victory for the PSOE, the first after the Second Republic. It provided this party with a very large absolute majority that has not been repeated, 202 seats out of the 350 in the Congress of Deputies, after dragging more than 10 million votes (46%) in a day in which almost the 80 percent of the census and after leading an electoral campaign under the slogan "For change."

The 'photo of the Palace', which is already part of the history of Spain, staged the victory with Felipe González and Alfonso Guerra going out to the balcony of Suite 110 of the aforementioned hotel, being acclaimed by the crowd gathered to celebrate the socialist triumph.

This PSOE victory also completely changed the Spanish political scene, with the near disappearance of the Union of the Democratic Center (UCD), which had been suffering a serious internal crisis, succeeded by Manuel Fraga's Popular Alliance as the main opposition party, the embryo of the current Popular Party.

The problems of the UCD had already caused the resignation of the president, Adolfo Suárez in 1981 and, later, the early call for elections by Calvo Sotelo. In between, the failed coup d'état of Lieutenant Colonel Tejero took place on February 23, 1981.
