The PSOE warns critics of the party with the Trans Law that "the enemy is not at home" but in the extreme right

Ferraz maintains that there is no internal debate between the current socialist positions and they refer to the position that came out of the last Congress

The spokeswoman for the Federal Executive of the PSOE, Pilar Alegría, has responded to the voices critical of the Trans Law within the party that "the enemies are not inside the house" but rather on the extreme right. Thus, she has indicated that it is "healthy" that there is a calm debate but has asked "not to be mistaken" and to be clear who the opponents are, after several figures of classic feminism of the PSOE have expressed their discontent with this rule.

Thus, the also Minister of Education and Vocational Training expressed it in an appearance before the media at the party's headquarters on Ferraz Street, when asked if the Government is going to incorporate the concerns expressed, among others, by Carmen Calvo, Former Vice President of the Government and current President of the Equality Commission in the Congress of Deputies.

Thus, he has indicated that something that feminists and progressive parties are clear about is that their "enemies" are not "inside the house" but in the extreme right, which has come to politics with a message "against women".

In addition, he considers "healthy" and "natural" that there is a "serene and calm" debate within the party, as requested, although he then issued a warning: "We cannot be wrong, if there is an enemy against that equality between men and women, LGTBI and trans people is in front, on the extreme right", he underlined.

In this regard, sources from the party leadership indicate that there is no internal debate, at least among the people who currently have power in the PSOE and recall that a common position emerged from the last Congress that was held in Valencia in 2021. However, they admit the different opinions at a broader level and underline the complexity of the subject.

They also try to downplay the discrepancies and slip that it is not a nuclear issue within the PSOE's internal dissuasions. "It is not the debate of the century," they point out.

Alegría has conveyed that the laws approved by the Council of Ministers are made with the aim of expanding and reinforcing rights and in his opinion that occurs with the Trans Law, as happened with other regulations approved by socialist governments such as the Equality Law or the of same-sex marriage.

Along the same lines, he considers it "logical and natural" that when he arrives at Congress, the debate and negotiation will be opened "even within the same parties", he has specified, in which he can "mature" and reflect on the issues addressed by the law.

Carmen Calvo has been maintaining a critical position regarding some points of this new norm, such as gender self-determination, and even stated a month ago in an interview in the newspaper 'El Mundo' that this norm could "destroy the powerful legislation on of equality" that exists in Spain.

Other voices close to the PSOE such as the philosopher Amelia Valcárcel have also harshly criticized the law, pointing out that it fosters "a new terrible machismo" as she recently stated. In her opinion, the bill "is full" of "misunderstandings" and is "a well of bad surprises so great that we would all do very well to think about it."

On the other hand, the spokeswoman has affirmed that she does not know if the term of amendments to the law in Congress will be extended again. This delay increased tension with coalition partners, United We Can, who accused the PSOE of slowing down parliamentary progress. In addition, it caused the historical socialist militant and trans activist Carla Antonelli to request the withdrawal of the party.

Finally, regarding Vox's proposal to repeal the Trans law in the Community of Madrid, announced this Monday, Pilar Alegría has assured that they are not surprised since it is a party with an ideology "contrary to the advancement of rights and liberties". "Vox in its purest form", she has settled it.
