The PSOE minimizes the recognition of a Basque surf or baseball team: "Spain is not going to break"

MADRID, 26 Oct. (EUROPA PRESS) -

The PSOE has downplayed this Wednesday the controversy over the amendment introduced in the Sports Law that opens the door to international recognition of regional teams in sports with historical roots or in which the territorial federations are prior to the Spanish, such as the case of the Basque ball or surfing, respectively. "Spain is not going to break up," said the socialist spokesman in Congress, Patxi López.

In the corridors of Congress, López has pointed out that the PP "will talk all the time about transfers and that Spain breaks up every ten minutes because of the Government", but considers it "evident" that "for a surfing or Basque pelota team Nothing breaks at all."

And, in addition, he has emphasized that the amendment introduced includes a second section establishing that the international participation of regional teams must have "the guarantee" of the Higher Sports Council" and the corresponding international federation.

On his side, the PNV spokesman, Aitor Esteban, has admitted that it has "cost a lot" to reach that agreement within the framework of the Sports Law. "It is balanced, fair and nothing is going to happen, only that we are all going to be more comfortable because it was an aspiration and a desire shared by all of Basque society", he congratulated himself.
