The PSOE closes the door to limit the inviolability of the King and for Congress to investigate Juan Carlos I

MADRID, 24 May. (EUROPA PRESS) -

The spokesman for the Socialist Group in Congress, Héctor Gómez, has lamented that Juan Carlos I has not taken advantage of his stay in Spain to "give explanations" to the public about his behaviour, although he has made it clear that the PSOE does not contemplate at this time neither reform the figure of the inviolability of the King nor give free rein to a parliamentary investigation commission on the emeritus.

At a press conference in Congress, Gómez commented that Juan Carlos de Borbón "always has the way open" to give his version of the information that has circulated about him in recent years, regardless of whether the Prosecutor's Office has decided not to open a case on them.

In his opinion, this weekend he has lost "an esdrújula and capital opportunity" to do so, but he can always give them in the future. According to the Socialists, this "exercise of transparency" in terms of matters on which there is still a "nebula" and "spaces for doubt" would contribute to "strengthening" the institution that Felipe VI now leads.

Thus, the PSOE continues to demand "public explanations" from the king emeritus, but does not consider it necessary that these be offered in Congress and keeps the path of the investigation commission "closed" that its partners in United We Can and their parliamentary allies demand.

And he is not willing to open the debate on the regulation of the figure of the inviolability of the King to limit it to his acts as head of state, but not to his private life. "We do not contemplate opening that space," said Gómez, despite the fact that Pedro Sánchez himself was at the time in favor of analyzing that possibility.
