The PP warns that Spain is going to be "within the storm" as the summer passes and will have to make "adjustments"

MADRID, 14 Jun. (EUROPA PRESS) -

The PP Deputy Secretary for Institutions, Esteban González Pons, warned this Tuesday that "very difficult times" are coming for the Spanish economy and has predicted that Spain "will be forced to make adjustments at the turn of the summer" in order to overcome the coming crisis and receive European funds.

"Spain is going to be in a storm after the summer," González Pons said in an interview on Antena 3, which Europa Press has collected, when asked if he believes that Spain is entering an economic recession based on the data.

The leader of the PP has said that he does not know if technically the term to be used is recession, but he has indicated that "it is clear that very difficult times are coming" for the economy. Moreover, he has warned that in the case of Spain it will coincide with "the adjustments that the Government has committed to with Brussels in order to receive the following payments from the Next Generation funds."

"Therefore, Spain is going to be forced at the turn of the summer to make adjustments to its economy in order to overcome the coming crisis and, at the same time, it will have to make the adjustments that it has agreed to with Brussels," he emphasized. to underline that it will be a "very difficult" end of the year.

In this sense, he has reiterated that it is going to be a "very difficult end of the year" and has added that what worries him most is that he does not see the Government of Pedro Sánchez "neither aware nor reacting". In fact, he has compared the current situation with that of the stage of the socialist government of José Luis Rodríguez Zapatero.

"We are repeating the story that already happened to us in the Zapatero government, seeing how the crisis is being denied", he indicated, to add that he hopes that the Executive is this time "capable of reacting in time and taking the appropriate measures", something which, as he said, he does not see what they are doing.

When asked what plan B is if the government does not make adjustments, González Pons pointed out that if the PP were in power, it would have already lowered taxes on the Spanish. However, he has complained that the government is dedicated to increasing public spending and debt.

In his opinion, this type of measure will have a response in the market with the rise in the risk premium. In his opinion, you cannot "make suicidal policies when you are inside a storm." "And Spain is going to be in a storm after the summer," he concluded.
