The spokeswoman in the Foreign Commission believes that the Government "throws balls out"

MADRID, 13 Jun. (EUROPA PRESS) -

The PP does not consider that it is "very intelligent" on the part of the Government to point to Russia as the reason behind the steps taken last week by Algeria against Spain, especially if what it is seeking, as it says, is dialogue to resolve the current crisis .

"If you want to give dialogue the opportunity, you have to create the conditions to make it possible, not to say that there is another behind it," the spokeswoman for the PP in the Congress Foreign Commission, Valentina Martínez, defended in statements to Europa Press, after that some members of the Executive have hinted that it was Russia that pushed Algiers to act. "He's not very smart," she stressed.

As she explained, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, José Manuel Albares, called her on Friday to comment on the result of her trip to Brussels, which culminated in a statement from the European Commission in which she warned Algeria that she was willing to take action since he considered that the Association Agreement with the community block would be violated by the measures adopted against Spain.

In that call, Albares expressed his desire to resume the dialogue to resolve the situation, initially triggered by the change in the Government's position regarding the Sahara, but told him that he did not have "high hopes" since everything depended on "a more wide" and came to point out that "the hand of Russia and Venezuela is behind it," in reference to the recent visits to Algiers by the Russian Foreign Minister, Sergei Lavrov, and the Venezuelan President, Nicolás Maduro.

For her part, the first vice president, Nadia Calviño, also linked the Algerian decision on Monday with the fact that the country "was increasingly aligned with Russia", for which she said she was not surprised by her new position.

For Martínez, Algeria's decision to suspend the transactions -- which has now been revoked -- "is a consequence of the government's unilateral policy that has not yet explained to the Spanish" with respect to the Sahara and therefore what is being done is "throw balls out".

In his opinion, "the government has entered a spiral in which it neither listens nor learns nor wants to rectify" what in his opinion involves "unjustifiable things" such as the turn with respect to the Sahara after supporting the Moroccan autonomy plan for the territory in a letter that could clearly be expected to provoke a reaction from Algeria.

Thus, he has demanded that the Executive explain exactly what it is doing to improve relations with Algeria, which already proceeded to withdraw its ambassador on March 19, and has demanded the appearance of both Sánchez and Albares.
