The PP asks Brussels for explanations on why the Midcat gas pipeline was suspended and regrets the "jogs" of the Government

MADRID, 18 Ago. (EUROPA PRESS) -

The PP spokeswoman in the European Parliament, Dolors Montserrat, has asked the European Commission this Thursday for explanations about why the Midcat gas pipeline project was suspended, which has returned to the fore at the request of the German Government.

This has been done in a parliamentary question, in which it has once again demanded that the Community Executive commit to the project, a gas pipeline that connects Portugal and Spain with the center of Europe, and in which it has requested information on the deadline in which that you anticipate might be working.

Montserrat recalled that in March of this year, in the plenary session of the European Parliament, she called for the need to commit to a "true" common energy market interconnected with infrastructures such as Midcat. Along these lines, she has insisted on "not missing out on the great opportunity that Spain is the country in the European Union (EU) with the most gas storage capacity and with the most regasification capacity".

Likewise, he has lamented the "lurches" of the Government on this infrastructure, because "the project was stopped and now they rectify being late once again", in relation to the change of position of the Minister of Ecological Transition, Teresa Ribera, who supports the project . "In the face of crises, improvisation and incompetence are worthless, something we see every day in Spain," she lamented, before calling for "rigor and political seriousness, not a government that is only right when it corrects itself."

"We must bet on renewables, but also react quickly to an energy crisis that can drag on over time," he stressed, recalling that the EU has already included gas and nuclear energy in its list of green energies for the transition energetic.

In the question, according to a statement, the spokeswoman has also asked the European Commission for information on the actions being carried out to increase the level of gas and electricity interconnections.
