The PP admits that the sedition reform damages the negotiations to renew the CGPJ: "We are further away than yesterday"

He believes that the Government "perhaps does not want to reach an agreement" by putting this issue on the political agenda in the middle of the Council's debate

MADRID, 27 Oct. (EUROPA PRESS) -

The PP admits that the Government's willingness to reform the crime of sedition and lower the penalties contemplated in the current Penal Code has undermined the confidence to agree on the renewal of the General Council of the Judiciary (CGPJ), as indicated this Thursday to Europa Press sources of the 'popular' dome.

"We are further than yesterday," sources from Feijóo's team have sentenced, who also acknowledge that, despite the "advances" of these weeks, there are "glaring discrepancies" in the negotiation of the CGPJ and the Constitutional Court that they have open with the PSOE.

One of the main stumbling blocks of the negotiation would be in the point related to a new election system, the same sources have indicated. Alberto Núñez Feijóo's party proposes that the newly appointed CGPJ present, within a period of six months from his inauguration, a proposal to reform the election system for the members of the judicial shift.

However, despite the fact that there has been progress in the negotiation in relation to the conditions that the members must meet to be part of the CGPJ and the TC, "more differences" continue to persist, sources consulted by Europa Press have confirmed.

In the leadership of the PP they have also recognized that "putting the reform of the crime of sedition on the political agenda", when not even ERC calls for it publicly and Junts and the CUP reject it, makes them "distrust the intentions" of the Government of Pedro Sanchez.

"They are giving in for nothing", the consulted sources have stressed to Europa Press, who have highlighted that bringing this matter to the media spotlight in full negotiation of the reform of the Judiciary has a "remarkable relevance".

In the leadership of the PP they do not hide their discomfort with the declarations in South Africa by the head of the Executive where he has reaffirmed his will to proceed to reform the crime of sedition, and has separated it from the ongoing negotiation with the PP for the renewal of the CGPJ, even saying that this agreement is ready in the absence of a 'yes' from the Popular Party.

From 'Genoa' they have blamed Pedro Sánchez for "openly lying" when "there is no closed agreement", something that, as they point out, has forced them to issue a statement "denying" the statements of the Prime Minister.

According to the 'popular', the statements of the President of the Government "do not adjust to reality". "Although it is true that there is progress in the talks, an agreement has not yet been reached," the same sources added.

PP sources have pointed out that the attitude in the last few hours on the part of the Executive shows that the one who is blocking the negotiation is not the Popular Party. "Maybe they don't want to reach an agreement," the sources consulted told Europa Press.

In this sense, the PP maintains that what is happening "is not accidental" and there is "political intent", admitting that Sánchez's words and the imposition that the Government itself imposes to reform the crime of sedition "complicates the situation" , have acknowledged the same sources.
