The Portuguese Minister of Health resigns after considering that she no longer meets the requirements of the position

Marta Temido presented this Tuesday her resignation as Minister of Health of Portugal to the Prime Minister, António Costa, after considering that she no longer meets "the conditions for the position", at a time when the health sector has been at the center of the glances due to the limitations that the emergency and gynecology services have been suffering.

The resignation letter has been accepted by Costa, who has indicated in a statement that "he respects the decision" and thanks Temido for "all the work" he has carried out since he assumed the portfolio in 2018, especially with regard to to his management of the health crisis caused by the pandemic, which made him one of the most recognized and popular cabinet members.

Feared has been at the head of the Ministry of Health for the last three years of the Government of Costa after succeeding Adalberto Campos Fernandes. Pending his replacement, the portfolio remains in the hands of the Deputy Secretary of State, António Lacerda Sales, and the Secretary of State for Health, Maria de Fátima Fonseca.

With extensive training in the sector, she has a doctorate in International Health from the Institute of Tropical Medicine of the University of Lisbon, a master's degree in Health Management and Economics from the Faculty of Economics of the University of Coimbra and a degree in Law from the same center.
