The PNV is inclined to leave the 'Mediator' case in the hands of Justice and believes that a commission would only make "noise"

MADRID, 28 Feb. (EUROPA PRESS) -

The PNV spokesman in Congress, Aitor Esteban, has reported this Tuesday that his parliamentary group prefers that the 'Mediator' plot, presumably headed by the now former socialist deputy Juan Bernardo Fuentes, be investigated in court and not in a commission constituted in Congress, which in his opinion would make "noise".

Ciudadanos will demand in Congress the creation of a commission to investigate the plot, while the PP has already requested the appearance of several ministers and has presented several questions to find out the degree of involvement that the different ministerial departments could have in it, which, according to the Prosecutor's Office, included "authorities, senior public officials" and other people.

The plot "offered different businessmen the possibility of obtaining privileges in the field of public procurement or other manifestations or benefits derived from the public sector in exchange for the payment of gifts, handouts, deliveries of money or other gifts." The alleged mediator, Antonio Navarro, revealed in an interview that he came to organize a dinner at a luxury restaurant for Fuentes Curbelo and fifteen socialist deputies.

In Esteban's opinion, and from previous experience, the investigative commissions in Congress cover less than what a court can do to "get to the bottom of it." In addition, in cases subject to judicial review, the Basque parliamentarian recalled that the "multitude of documents and evidence" leave the ability of parliamentarians to investigate "constrained".

In short, as Esteban pointed out at a press conference from Congress, the option of the investigation commission "makes all the sense" if "you want to make noise and raise it (the case) to political discussion", but, if what what is wanted is to know the truth, "the judge is going to investigate in more depth and more means".

Groups such as ERC and Compromís have already voted in favor of an investigative commission in Congress for the plot, while the PDeCAT has advocated for the socialist parliamentary group to purge responsibilities and the Lower House to constitute the commissions approved and still pending beforehand.
