The new finance minister defends Truss but hints at changes in economic policy

MADRID, 16 Oct. (EUROPA PRESS) -

The new UK Finance Minister, Jeremy Hunt, has asked the public this Sunday to maintain the trust placed in the country's Prime Minister, Liz Truss, although he has dropped that the British Government will give a turn to the economic promises campaign after the furious response against the tax cut plans of the new Executive.

Hunt is the successor to Kwasi Kwarteng, whom Truss has singled out as ultimately responsible for a tax cut plan whose unveiling about two weeks ago caused a tremendous setback in the markets. The new Finance Minister, in comments to the BBC this Sunday, has assured that Truss "has changed" and now "she is willing to do the most difficult thing in politics, which is to change his position."

"Now we are going to show not only what we want to do, but how we are going to achieve it," he added.

However, Hunt has advanced that his portfolio "is not going to rule out any option" and maintains that his intention is to preserve "the greatest possible number of tax cuts" by understanding that "the long-term economic health of the country depends on a low tax economy. "I believe in this stance wholeheartedly," he added.

Hunt took the opportunity to reject the rumors that already describe him, according to British media, as the shadow country's president. "Liz Truss is still at the forefront," the Finance Minister assured.
