The Mexican Prosecutor's Office opens an investigation into immigrants killed by suffocation in a truck in Texas

MADRID, 29 Jun. (EUROPA PRESS) -

The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Mexico, Marcelo Ebrard, has announced that the Attorney General's Office (FGR) has opened an investigation into the death by suffocation of 51 people in a truck in Texas, United States. Among the deceased there are 22 Mexicans.

"I held a call with the Attorney General of the Republic, Dr. Alejandro Gertz Manero, who has arranged to open an investigation folder regarding the tragedy in San Antonio Texas due to events related to our territory. He shares with me, he flies a team to Texas for that purpose," Ebrard explained in a message posted on Twitter.

In addition, he has revealed contacts with his Guatemalan counterpart, Mario Búcaro. "We will act together in support of victims and families affected by the tragedy in San Antonio, Texas. We share deep sorrow for what happened. Investigations are underway to find those responsible," he pointed out.

Thus, the Mexican authorities will collaborate in the investigation of the Department of Homeland Security of the United States into what is already one of the deadliest incidents that occurred on the border between Mexico and the United States related to emigration.

In 2017, at least 10 migrants died after becoming trapped in a truck that was parked in a San Antonio shopping center. In 2003, 19 dead migrants were found inside a truck at very high temperatures near that same city.
