MADRID, 29 Jun. (EUROPA PRESS) -
The South Korean government has announced that the country's president, Yoon Suk Yeol, will hold a three-way meeting with the president of the United States, Joe Biden, and with the Japanese prime minister, Fumio Kishida, taking advantage of the NATO summit in Madrid.
The meeting will be held this Wednesday and is the first meeting of its kind since September 2017, when the leaders of the three countries met in New York. Since then the distance between Seoul and Tokyo has prevented a new appointment.
However, since Yoon's inauguration, relations seem to have improved, to the point that there is even speculation with a bilateral meeting in Madrid, reports the South Korean news agency Yonhap.
Yoon left for Spain on Monday to attend the summit, which will culminate between this Wednesday and Thursday in the Spanish capital. The trip marks her first international multilateral appointment since she took office last month.
South Korea is not a member of NATO, but is invited as a partner country, just like Japan, Australia or New Zealand.
