King Felipe VI has delivered this Tuesday the offices to the 171 new judges that make up the 71st Promotion of the judicial career, in a solemn act held in Barcelona, ​​where he has referred to judicial independence as a "bulwark" that must be respected " both at the institutional and individual level", while recalling that the rule of law requires judges to "firmly defend the Constitution and the law".

"Independence is, in effect, the keystone of your function, a bulwark that constitutes the essence of the Rule of Law because it ensures the principle of separation of powers enshrined in our Constitution. Therefore, as such, it must be proclaimed, preserved and respected both institutionally and individually", said the Head of State.

Likewise, he recalled that "the rule of law demands from its judges a firm defense of the Constitution and the law, providing fair and impartial answers to the problems of citizens and offering them a framework of certainty, stability and legal security as a guarantee of a free society; of a society that, in order to develop in peace and harmony, relies on a Judicial Power made up of independent, responsible men and women and subjected solely to the rule of law".

He has also emphasized to them that they are "European judges".
