The King meets with Lula accompanied by Yolanda Díaz and Albares before returning from Brazil

MADRID, 2 Ene. (EUROPA PRESS) -

King Felipe VI held his first meeting this Monday with the new president of Brazil, Luiz Inazio Lula da Silva, before concluding his trip to this country to attend precisely his inauguration.

The meeting, as reported by Zarzuela, took place at the Itamaraty Palace, headquarters of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and the monarch was accompanied during it by the second vice president, Yolanda Díaz, and by the Minister of Foreign Affairs, José Manuel Albares.

Don Felipe already had the opportunity to greet Lula on Sunday, who returns to power after defeating Jair Bolsonaro in the recent elections, at the end of the inauguration ceremony, in which he was also accompanied by Díaz and Albares.

The King traditionally holds meetings with the outgoing and incoming presidents when he attends the inauguration of Ibero-American leaders. On this occasion, there has been no meeting with Bolsonaro, who was out of the country and was not even present at the transfer of power.

In a message posted on his Twitter account, Lula indicated that the meeting served to talk "about relations between Brazil and Spain, Europe and Latin America."

Don Felipe has already begun his return trip to Spain from Brazil, a country that he had not visited since he acceded to the throne in 2014, although he had been before, among other things for inaugurations of previous leaders when he was still Prince of Asturias.
