The Government has created a National Commission for the commemoration of the Bicentennial of the National Police in 2024 and has determined that the Kings are the ones who exercise the Honorary Presidency.

The decree was approved in the Council of Ministers last Tuesday and, according to the Police in a statement collected by Europa Press, the commission will function as an interministerial collegiate body attached to the Ministry of the Interior.

Specifically, its objective is to promote and coordinate all the activities aimed at organizing the celebration of the event of exceptional public interest 'Bicentennial of the National Police'.

In the celebration of the bicentennial, which will take place on January 13, 2024, the main episodes in the history of this police institution will be commemorated, as well as its image in the eyes of the public, the feeling of belonging among its members and its recognition as a of reference" in public security, both nationally and internationally.

Likewise, according to the National Police, all the national agents who gave their lives in the act of service will be honored.

In this bicentennial, the National Police intends to remember how on January 13, 1824, and at the initiative of King Ferdinand VII, the Royal Decree was promulgated by which the General Police of the Kingdom was created, the historical antecedent of the National Police.

According to the published Royal Decree, it is, therefore, the origins of the Police of all Spaniards and a date of "great relevance" in the future of Spain. "It has become a national institution responsible for ensuring security and being a guarantor of well-being and coexistence, keys to the development of the nation," the Royal Decree has stated.

Throughout these two centuries of existence, and despite having had different names, the National Police has served all citizens and Spain uninterruptedly, "always with the same spirit of public service", highlighted the National Police.

"It is a police force that has known how to evolve and adapt to the challenges of each era, forging in this long journey principles and values ​​that arise from effort, sacrifice and heroism," he added.

Likewise, the role of the institution in society has been valued. "As a result of the strict professionalism, the police vocation and the service of the thousands of police officers who have formed and are part of this institution throughout its history, the National Police is today one of the most beloved and valued institutions by the society," he added.
