The solemn act of delivery of the Princess of Asturias Awards, in its forty-second edition, began this Friday at 6:36 p.m. at the Campoamor Theater in Oviedo, under the presidency of the King and Queen of Spain and with the presence of Princess Leonor and the Infanta Sofia.

The Queen Emeritus, Doña Sofía, has also attended, as is tradition. The Royal Family arrived slightly behind schedule and were received by the President and Director of the Foundation, Luis Fernández-Vega and Teresa Sanjurjo; the President of the Principality, Adrián Barbón; the mayor of Oviedo, Alfredo Canteli; the president of the Congress, Meritxell Batet; the president of the Senate, Ander Gil; and the ministers Miquel Iceta and Luis Planas.

In this year's edition, the Princess of Asturias Foundation has distinguished Carmen Linares and María Pagés with the Princess of Asturias Award for the Arts; Adam Michnik with the Princess of Asturias Award for Communication and Humanities; Eduardo Matos Moctezuma, with the Princess of Asturias Award for Social Sciences; the Refugee Olympic Foundation and Team with the Princess of Asturias Award for Sports; Juan Mayorga with the Princess of Asturias Award for Letters; Ellen MacArthur with the Princess of Asturias Award for International Cooperation; Geoffrey Hinton, Yann LeCun, Yoshua Bengio and Demis Hassabis, with the Princess of Asturias Award for Scientific and Technical Research; and Shigeru Ban, with the Princess of Asturias Award for Concord.

Once the awards have been presented, the Princess of Asturias and King Felipe VI will deliver their speeches. Behind them, the Royal Bagpipe Band of the City of Oviedo will perform the anthem of Asturias, giving way to the winners, who will leave the traditional stage where the awards are given, accompanied by the same bagpipe band, which will perform the parade 'El Xarreru '. Finally, His Majesty the King will declare the event closed and will announce the 2023 Princess of Asturias Awards.
