The junior 'Hispanos', three-time European champions

MADRID, 17 Jul. (EUROPA PRESS) -

The Spanish junior men's handball team was proclaimed European champion this Sunday by beating host Portugal (35-37) at the Matosinhos Sports and Congress Center, the third continental title for Spain in the category.

The junior 'Hispanos' had to lower the Portuguese euphoria at the start, under the support of their host crowd and the offensive leadership of Francisco Mota da Costa. Roberto Domenech's goal kept Spain in the fight, in an exchange of blows.

Rodrigo Reñones' men lacked effectiveness in their attacks, with a great performance also from the Portuguese goal (16-15). The restart was also for the locals, with a cushion of 3-4 goals that put Spain on alert. The 'Hispanics' squeezed and forced the losses of Portugal to change the script.

The pressure was managed worse by the Portuguese squad, while Spain knew how to play the final minutes. Domenech saved and Bruno Reguart directed the attack well while Portugal was running out of response, in the third Spanish title in the last decade.
