The Government trusts that sustainable mobility will contribute 20,000 million euros to GDP and 280,000 jobs

MADRID, 16 Jun. (EUROPA PRESS) -

The Government hopes that the policies aimed at promoting sustainable mobility will translate into a contribution to the Gross Domestic Product (GDP) of 20,000 million euros, as well as the creation of 280,000 new jobs throughout the country.

This was stated by the Minister of Transport, Mobility and Urban Agenda, Raquel Sánchez, in her closing speech at the Global Mobility Call (GMC), the mobility fair that is being held this week at Ifema Madrid with the support of the Ministry and Smobhub .

Sánchez, accompanied by the President of the Government, Pedro Sánchez, has detailed that the objectives of these mobility policies are aimed at eliminating combustion vehicles from cities, for the railway to continue to gain market share and for public transport to be the majority, along with the shared vehicle and the bicycle.

To this end, the Ministry he directs is promoting the creation of new urban approaches and new designs to decentralize cities, through its two main legislative instruments already in the pipeline: the Safe, Sustainable and Connected Mobility Strategy and the Mobility Law sustainable, together with the financing of the European recovery plan.

In this sense, the minister has assured that of the 3,000 million euros already planned in mobility policies, 2,000 million have already been transferred to the autonomous communities and city councils and another 500 million euros will be processed next month.

"We aspire to become the best showcase for those who pursue similar objectives, with the commitment to create new transport systems capable of protecting the health and safety of citizens and the environment, being decisive for the economic and social development of the country. ", has added.

Finally, the minister has focused on the field of railways, with initiatives such as Mercancías 30 and Cercanías 25, aimed at promoting freight and passenger transport in metropolitan areas, with two main corridors yet to be completed, the Mediterranean and the Atlantic, which he hopes will promote new opportunities for companies and people.
