The Government regrets the decision of Algeria, a "friendly country", and expresses its willingness to maintain cooperation

MADRID, 8 Jun. (EUROPA PRESS) -

The Government has regretted Algeria's decision to suspend the Treaty of Friendship with Spain while at the same time expressing its commitment to it and its willingness to continue maintaining a cooperative relationship with the Maghreb country, which it considers a "friend".

Diplomatic sources have assured that the Government regrets the announcement made by the Algerian Presidency, which has attributed its decision to the turn taken by Spain with respect to the Sahara by supporting the autonomy plan proposed by Morocco as a solution to the conflict.

Thus, the sources have made it clear that the Government reaffirms "its full commitment to the content of the treaty", signed in 2002, and that it considers Algeria "a neighboring and friendly country".

For this reason, it has reiterated "its full availability to continue maintaining and developing the special cooperative relations between the two countries, for the benefit of both peoples".
