The Government modifies the regulations to compensate the Mediterranean fleet for days of inactivity

MADRID, 5 Jul. (EUROPA PRESS) -

The Council of Ministers has approved this Tuesday, at the proposal of the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food, the modification of the regulations that will allow Mediterranean trawlers to be compensated for the days of temporary stoppage that they have to carry out, as a consequence of the implementation of the multiannual plan for demersal fishing in the western Mediterranean.

"With this regulatory change, the Government has indicated that it is advancing in the fulfillment of the commitment made with the Mediterranean fleet once it was agreed last December to apply new days of reduction of efforts.

The approved modification specifically includes the system for calculating the maximum eligible days and the scale to be applied for each vessel. Both will be set for each vessel based on the days of effort assigned in the previous year and the average income obtained in the years 2017, 2018 and 2019.

The calculation of the scale supposes a new system that will allow the compensation to be adapted to the situation of each ship, as well as a "significant effort" by the General State Administration to support the sector in its adaptation to compliance with the Mediterranean Management Plan , by having financing for the year 2022 of more than 16 million euros.
