The Government expresses its "unconditional" support for Lula and rejects attitudes that do not respect the results of the polls

MADRID, 8 Ene. (EUROPA PRESS) -

The Government of Spain has expressed its "unconditional" support for President-elect Luis Ignacio Lula da Silva "democratically elected by the Brazilian people" while rejecting attitudes that do not accept or call into question the results of the polls.

"We wish to express our rejection of any initiative or attitude that questions the Brazilian democratic process by sectors that do not want to accept the results emanating from the will of the people of Brazil," reads the statement issued by the Executive.

This has been the response of the Government of Spain after hundreds of supporters of former President Jair Bolsonaro have overcome this Sunday the police barriers and invaded the headquarters of the Brazilian Congress, the presidential palace, the Planalto Palace, and the headquarters of the Supreme Court Federal in Brasilia in the framework of a demonstration against the new Brazilian president, Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva.

The participants in the protest have overcome the police barriers and tore up barbed wire fences despite the fact that the Police have used pepper spray and other anti-riot means. The protesters have the stated objective of overthrowing Lula and her vice president, Geraldo Alckmin.
