The Government estimates savings of up to 1,000 euros per family with free Renfe season tickets

Up to 300,000 people have already registered on the page to purchase these new tickets with a refundable deposit

The Government has calculated that the savings linked to the free commuter and medium-distance trains, as well as the 50% discounts on the Avant and some AVE, will reach 1,000 euros per family between the next months of September and December .

This has been advanced by the Minister of Transport, Mobility and Urban Agenda, Raquel Sánchez, during her speech at the press conference after the meeting of the Council of Ministers, in which she has reported that some 300,000 people have already registered on the web de Renfe to purchase these free season tickets starting this Wednesday.

Savings have been calculated based on a family made up of a couple and two student children who travel in the metropolitan area of ​​the main Spanish cities that have Cercanías (Rodalies in Catalonia) and Media Distancia services.

Thus, according to government estimates, families will save around 600 euros in Madrid, 750 euros in Barcelona and up to 1,000 euros in other large cities such as Valencia or Seville during these four months.

Raquel Sánchez has taken advantage of her speech to challenge the PP and its president, Alberto Núñez Feijóo, to vote in favor of the aid package that includes this free train, understanding that "it has a positive impact on families and on workers".

"This measure helps families, young people, workers and, ultimately, everyone, because it makes public transport more manageable, making it possible to go to work, study, health centers and the rest of public services. It is a relief for their economies, especially for the most vulnerable, and it benefits society as a whole because it helps to contain the inflationary spiral", added the minister.

Since last August 8, users can register on the website and in the Renfe and Renfe Cercanías applications to prepare the necessary procedures for the acquisition of season tickets from this Wednesday. Users who normally use Renfe tools will already have this step done, since it is about registering the data.

For the purchase of the subscription, it will be necessary to deposit a deposit. In the case of Cercanías and Rodalies, the deposit to be paid when acquiring the pass will be 10 euros, preferably by means of a bank card, so that the refund is automatically returned to that card, as long as the user has made a minimum of 16 trips.

In case of not complying with the stipulated minimum number of trips, the deposit will be considered compensation and will not be returned to the user. In the event that the deposit is deposited in cash, the return of the deposit must be requested at the ticket offices, customer service offices or at any other after-sales service authorized for this purpose by Renfe.

During the marketing period of the new recurring subscription, the sale of the rest of the usual subscriptions will be suspended, although those that have been purchased previously will maintain the validity with which they were purchased and may be used.

The subscription will be purchased for each Cercanías nucleus and will be valid for unlimited trips between any origin and destination. All customers will be able to obtain this pass at ticket offices, vending machines and through the Renfe Cercanías app, except in the metric gauge and conventional gauge hubs of Asturias and Santander, where they can only purchase it physically.

The app will generate a QR code that will be downloaded to the mobile and that can be used to directly cross the turnstiles in the Cercanías hubs of Madrid, Málaga, Murcia/Alicante, Valencia and Zaragoza. Likewise, it will generate a seven-digit code with which the subscription can be obtained in physical format or loaded into the one that the client already has at the ticket offices or the vending machines in the centers of Cádiz, San Sebastián, Bilbao, Seville and Barcelona. . In any case, in the stations of these cores Renfe will have support staff.

In the case of Conventional Medium Distance, the deposit will be, in general terms, 20 euros and if a minimum of 16 trips are made, the deposit will be returned. Users will be able to obtain their free pass at self-service machines and station ticket offices and formalize their trip at self-service machines, ticket offices, the Renfe website and app.

During the four months that the new recurring subscriptions will be valid, the sale of the usual subscriptions will be suspended, which will maintain the validity with which they were purchased. Travelers may request a refund of the proportional part.

As far as the deposit is concerned, on the Media Distancia line Villarrubia-Córdoba-Rabanales-Alcolea, the one stipulated for the Cercanías titles will apply (10 euros). The deposit will also be 10 euros between any of the stations that make up the Rodalies de Lleida, Tarragona and Girona.

In the case of the new high-speed passes and Avant passes, the period of use will run from September 1, 2022 to January 31, 2023.

Avant OSP services (public service obligation) will have a 50% discount for recurring users, which will be applied to all Avant multi-trip tickets (Card Plus Pass, Card Plus 10 or Card Plus 10-45) sold between on August 24 and December 31, 2022 to be used from September 1 to January 31, 2023.

Tickets sold previously whose trips are used during the period of validity of the discounts may request a refund of 50% of each trip made in that period through Renfe's post-sale channels. Discounts for large families and other organizations will be applied after the 50% discount.

For the Avant Card Plus (30-50) subscription, three months of validity and 60 days for its use are established from the date of travel of the first formalization. For the Avant Card Plus 10 Normal and Student, 30 days are set for the first formalization and 20 days for its use from the date of travel of said formalization. For the Avant Tarjeta Plus 10-45, the period of validity and use will be 45 days from the date of purchase, including this one.

Renfe Viajeros will also market a new recurring season ticket on certain routes, which will be nominative and will correspond to an origin/destination on routes in which the shortest travel time is less than 100 minutes, is not a route declared a public service obligation-Avant and is not on lines with signed capacity framework agreements.

It can be purchased between next Wednesday and December 31, 2022 to be used between September 1, 2022 and January 1, 2023; It will be valid for 10 trips, in both directions, between the requested origin and destination, and its period of use will be 30 days for the first formalization and 20 days for its use from the date of travel of said formalization.

Madrid-Palencia, Madrid-Zamora, León-Valladolid, León-Palencia, Burgos-Madrid, Burgos-Valladolid, Ourense-Zamora, Palencia-Valladolid, Huesca-Zaragoza, León-Segovia, Segovia-Zamora, Palencia-Segovia, Medina del Campo-Zamora are the relationships for which this new ticket can be purchased.
