The Government does not clarify if it will pardon Griñán after learning that he is ill but asks to respect his rights

The government spokesperson and Minister for Territorial Policy, Isabel Rodríguez, did not clarify this Wednesday whether the Executive is going to grant pardon to former Andalusian president José Antonio Griñán --sentenced to 6 years in prison for the "ERE case"-- after know that he is sick with cancer, although he has said that his rights must be respected and has wished him a speedy recovery.

Asked if within the PSOE it would be understood that Griñán not be pardoned when it is known that he is ill, the spokeswoman only responded that not only in this case, but in all, "all rights must be respected", recalling that the family of the former president and former socialist minister has requested that pardon.

In addition, the minister spokesperson has indicated that "there is a circumstance", "unknown" until now, that "he suffers from a disease". "Therefore, the first thing is his speedy recovery, and he is assisted, like other people, by all his rights," she has transferred in an interview with RNE, collected by Europa Press.

Griñán has not yet entered prison to serve his sentence for embezzlement as he is pending a decision on whether or not the serious illness he alleges affects the fulfillment of his prison sentence, since the defense of the former Andalusian leader has asked to suspend his entry into the prison for his state of health.
