The Government currently rules out extending the free Renfe bonds for the next year

MADRID, 12 Sep. (EUROPA PRESS) -

The Minister of Transport, Mobility and Urban Agenda, Raquel Sánchez, has ruled out the proposal to extend the free Renfe bonds beyond December 31, which has been estimated at more than 900,000 since the measure was launched and till the date.

This was confirmed by the minister during a meeting in which she took stock of the actions carried out in recent months to promote the release of passengers by rail, specifically on the Chamartín-Atocha tunnel connection and the section to Torrejón de Velasco; and the start on September 13 of the Madrid-Alicante/Murcia high-speed services from the Madrid-Chamartín-Clara Campoamor station.

The minister was accompanied by the president of Adif and Adif AV, María Luisa Domínguez, as well as by the main executives of the passenger operators: the president of Renfe, Isaías Táboas; the president of Iryo, Carlos Bertomeu, and the general director of Ouigo Spain, Hélène Valenzuela.

Although Sánchez has affirmed that an extension of the measure is not contemplated, he has also indicated that during the coming months the Executive will study its evolution, as well as the 50% discounts in different travel modalities, with the aim of analyzing those measures of a structural nature that "invite and add more users to public transport".

At this point, the minister has stressed that the Government will study what structural measures can be implemented, although she has not offered more details in this regard.
