The Government, "convinced" that it will attract at least one chip factory to Spain in five years

MADRID, 2 Sep. (EUROPA PRESS) -

The commissioner of the Perte Chip, Jaime Martorell, assured this Friday that the Government is "convinced" that the Government will attract "one, if not more" advanced chip factories in the five years of travel that have been marked for the Perte.

Martorell stressed that "there is still a long way to go", but he stressed the importance of this factory existing and the conviction that there will be a semiconductor market for all European countries during his speech at the 36th Meeting of the Digital Economy and Telecommunications organized by Ametic in Santander.

The commissioner has recalled Spain's previous experiences in the sector, which he considers an endorsement and proof of the country's ability to manufacture semiconductors, because it has already done so previously.

However, he has stressed the importance of also generating an ecosystem of companies around the economy of chips, in fields such as their design.

"We have to be more active in designing new products," remarked Martorell, who also emphasized the relevance of the interaction between designers and manufacturers.

The Perte Chip has a budget of 12,250 million euros, with the bulk of it dedicated to attracting factories to the country, although significant amounts are also allocated to the creation and investment in national companies.

The Secretary of State for Telecommunications and Digital Infrastructure, Roberto Sánchez, announced last Thursday that the Government had negotiated the installation of a factory in Spain with more than half a dozen companies.

Precisely this week, there was also a meeting between the President of the Government, Pedro Sánchez, and the Global Counselor and Vice President of Samsung Electronics, Jong-Hee Han, at the Palacio de la Moncloa with this aspect as one of the topics on the table.
