The Government believes that there is a real possibility of an agreement to renew the CGPJ and asks not to focus on the differences

MADRID, 11 Oct. (EUROPA PRESS) -

The Government believes that there is a real possibility in agreement with the PP to renew the General Council of the Judiciary (CGPJ) and they consider it necessary to protect it by emphasizing what they agree with, according to Executive sources. In fact, the Minister of Territorial Policy and Government Spokesperson, Isabel Rodríguez, has today demanded not to focus on the differences in order to agree with the 'popular'.

However, from the Government they have insisted that the Executive's position in relation to the renewal "has not changed" although they believe that the president of the PP, Alberto Núñez Feijóo, is free to say what he wants, in reference to his statements of this morning that Pedro Sánchez had promised to modify the system for electing the members of the governing body of the judges.

In fact, the sources consulted assure that the negotiation is not conditional on anything and allege that the situation that has been created with the fall of Carlos Lesmes as head of the CGPJ and the TS is extremely serious. But they clarify, yes, that names have not yet been discussed.

The Minister of Territorial Policy and Government Spokesperson, Isabel Rodríguez, spoke along the same lines this afternoon, stating that an agreement is being "forged" and "advancing". She said so after the meeting of the Council of Ministers and just the day after the interview between Pedro Sánchez and Alberto Núñez Feijóo to unblock the negotiation.

The minister said that, on behalf of the Government, she would like to "underline or perhaps celebrate" that after 4 years of blockade, of democratic anomaly, "advance is being made on an agreement".

He recalled that the blockade situation was profoundly aggravated last weekend with the resignation of the President of the Council, Carlos Lesmes, for which he explained that Pedro Sánchez took the initiative "immediately and, given these events, he called the opposition leader to rush this last opportunity to reach an agreement".

For this reason, the Executive Spokesperson has insisted that at this time and "for the sake of that agreement" the important thing is to underline that they are "forging" it, for which she considers that this is not the time to show differences but to see what they are in agreement. "The Government is very interested in carrying out the agreement and it is very important not to focus on the difference," she exclaimed.

Isabel Rodríguez has expressed her desire to be at the last moments to reach that agreement and thus redirect the constitutional path with the renewal of the Judicial Power Council.

In this way, he has avoided commenting on the statements made by the president of the Popular Party, who assured this morning that the Government was committed to reforming the CGPJ's election system, as the 'popular' were asking to unblock the renewal of the governing body of the judges.

The minister has limited herself to saying that everyone knows what the differences are in the positions of the government and the PP, but since it is about "solving a democratic anomaly" and complying with the Constitution, she has insisted on not highlighting them.

"The important thing is to forge and reach an agreement and let the teams work to solve the situation and achieve the necessary and much desired unblocking by the Government in these four years," he stressed.
