The Government avoids clarifying whether Ceuta and Melilla will be included in any NATO document at the Madrid Summit

MADRID, 27 Jun. (EUROPA PRESS) -

The Minister for Territorial Policy and Government Spokesperson, Isabel Rodríguez, has today avoided clarifying whether the NATO summit to be held in Madrid from tomorrow until Thursday will specifically include in some document the protection of the Alliance for Ceuta and Melilla.

When asked about this matter and after the PSOE spokesman stated that "for the first time" the two autonomous cities are going to be included under the NATO umbrella, the minister avoided giving a clear answer. She alone has pointed out that migratory flows are one of the "great global challenges" and they understand that "it will be addressed."

"It is going to be an important summit in terms of the consequences of the war but also because it will define the action of the alliance in the next 10 years", the Government Spokesperson began by affirming.

He then added: "undoubtedly one of the great global challenges that, unfortunately, we have suffered in an extreme way in these last few hours, has to do with migratory flows and we understand that it will be an issue that will be addressed and we expect the development of the summit of these meetings an appropriate response".

According to Isabel Rodríguez, the existence of NATO is a necessity to work for peace and she considers that the challenge of the migratory crises will be an important issue.

An issue, that of immigration, on which Isabel Rodríguez has returned when asked again by NATO, insisting that this is a difficult challenge for all States. She added that the border between the EU and Africa is "the most unequal of all, whichever way you look at it", pointing to indicators such as GDP or per capita income.

"What we are seeing are extreme and dramatic situations, but this is the framework, that of the alliance, that of facing a global challenge with global instruments, it is the position of the Government in that sense," he riveted without mentioning at any time whether They hope that the protection of Ceuta and Melilla will be expressly included in some Alliance document that comes out of the Madrid Summit.
