The Government asks the CCAA for responsibility after lowering Valencia's personal income tax: reducing income translates into cuts

He alleges that there are differences between Ximo Puig's measure and the one proposed by the PP

MADRID, 27 Sep. (EUROPA PRESS) -

The Minister of Territorial Policy and Government spokesperson, Isabel Rodríguez, has avoided responding expressly today if the Executive agrees or not with the decision of the Valencian president to deflate the personal income tax rate for incomes of less than 60,000 euros. But she, in a generic way, has asked for a "responsible speech" from all the Autonomous Communities because every time income is reduced, "there is the debate about what to cut."

This was stated during the press conference after the Council of Ministers in which she avoided specifying the Government's position, despite the fact that journalists have asked her on several occasions if she supports Ximo Puig's decision and if the Government is going to take a similar decision.

Rodríguez has insisted that the Government's fiscal policy is that of "social justice" so that this crisis "is not paid by the usual" and that will be, he has said, the focus of the fiscal package that the Executive is preparing in order to that those who have more contribute more and that there are no "fiscal gifts" from the middle and working class to the richest.

He also added that the package of measures in which the Treasury is working, which is being considered for presentation on Thursday of this week, "will alleviate the root problem", that is, prevent "inflation from continuing to rise".

But having said this, he has made it clear that fiscal policy cannot be designed "in the abstract" because every time a decision is made on fiscal matters and revenues are reduced, it is necessary to consider "where they are reduced and who is affected by that reduction".

In this sense, he has specified that the Government "respects the Autonomous Communities", but has asked all of them to have a "responsible discourse", although he has done so in a generic way and without expressly mentioning the announcement made this morning by Ximo Puig to deflate the IRPF rate for income of less than 60,000 euros.

However, sources from the Executive have tried to differentiate the measure announced by Ximo Puig from the proposed deflation of the IRPF rate made by the Popular Party. Even from the Government it is affirmed that the Valencian president has all the legitimacy to do what he considers opportune.

In any case, the spokeswoman has insisted that every time there is talk of reducing income, it must be taken into account that they are resources that will later be needed to hire more teachers, health workers, to help the most disadvantaged people or for the dependence.

"Every time we talk about downgrading, there is a debate about what to cut," he exclaimed, before specifying that "this is a government that does not want to cut rights and benefits to the people who need it most at this time of difficulty."

Therefore, he stressed that this will be the fiscal policy that the Government is "finalizing with absolute rigor and consistency with European policy."

In addition, he has argued that Spain has to be "consistent" with its policies because it has asked Europe for help and is going to receive 140,000 million euros.
