The Finnish electricity network Fingrid has warned of possible cuts in supply during the coming winter due to the energy crisis that Europe is suffering as a result of the Russian invasion of Ukraine.

"In case of power shortage, consumption can be reduced for a maximum of two hours. Planned outages will be notified in advance," the company said, according to information from broadcaster Yle.

Thus, a spokesman has specified that the measure is due to the abandonment of Russian oil and gas within the framework of the sanctions imposed by the war in Ukraine. As the company has indicated, these products are "extremely difficult to replace".

However, he has ensured that cutting off the power supply is a "last resort" measure that will be used, in principle, in an emergency.

The energy situation in Finland is highly dependent on the commissioning of the third unit of the Olkiluoto NPP, which has been regularly postponed and is now expected in December.

Finnish Economy Minister Mika Lintila, who visited the nuclear power plant this week, has declared that the plant will operate "at full capacity" by September and is already at 60 percent of maximum this month.

The Olkiluoto plant is located on the shore of the Gulf of Bothnia, in the Baltic Sea, between Sweden and Finland. Two reactors already in operation produce 16 percent of the energy used by the country for internal consumption.
