The creation of companies falls 8.2% in April after five months of increases

The number of new commercial companies fell 8.2% in April compared to the same month of 2021, to a total of 8,474 companies, according to data released this Thursday by the National Institute of Statistics (INE).

This decline puts an end to five consecutive months of year-on-year increases, which led to the creation of companies at figures not seen in 14 years.

For the constitution of the 8,474 companies created in April, more than 282.8 million euros were subscribed, which is 14.8% less than in the same month of 2021, while the average capital subscribed, which stood at 33,373 euros , fell by 7.2% year-on-year.

While the creation of companies decreased, in April the dissolution of companies also fell, 10.7% compared to the same month last year, to a total of 1,661. In this way, every day of the month of April 55 companies stopped operating in Spain.

In the first four months of the year, 0.4% more companies have been incorporated than in the same period in 2021 and 9% more companies have disappeared.
