The court of the 'Villarejo case' suspends the trial for the former head of the UCAO after suffering a stroke

The AN forensic doctor indicates that for another six months he will not be able to assess the consequences

MADRID, 24 May. (EUROPA PRESS) -

The court that judges the retired commissioner José Manuel Villarejo for his private business has suspended the trial for the former head of the Central Operational Support Unit (UCAO) of the National Police Enrique García Castaño, also accused in this oral hearing, due to stroke suffered on May 1.

The president of the court, magistrate Ángela Murillo, explained at the beginning of this Tuesday's session that the forensic doctor of the National High Court who examined García Castaño has stated in a report that "at least within a period of six months You will not be able to assess your state of health or how your evolution is resolved.

"So, given the illness he suffers from, the court agrees that it be suspended with respect to him," Murillo announced, who the day before already advanced that "possibly" they would adopt this decision about García Castaño.

The court agreed in the session of May 9 to have a forensic doctor of the AN examine the also retired commissioner in the medical center where he is admitted to determine if his current state of health allows him to remain as a defendant in this trial.

His lawyer, Aitor Martínez, reported then that the head of the UCAO had suffered a stroke, warning at the same time that it is not yet known whether "he is going to be incapacitated in the sense of being a person who cannot be charged", for which he claimed AN medical examination.

The Anti-Corruption Prosecutor's Office requests that the former head of the Central Operational Support Unit be sentenced to 87 years in prison for the pieces 'Iron' and 'Land' for allegedly giving Villarejo data from police databases for his private investigations.

García Castaño is one of the more than thirty defendants who sit on the bench in this first trial of 'Tándem', where the pieces 'Iron', 'Land' and 'Pintor' of the macro-cause on Villarejo's private businesses are judged , for whom the Public Ministry asks for 109 years in prison.
