The BNG supports the changes on embezzlement, but will reject the penal reform for criminalizing protest

MADRID, 13 Dic. (EUROPA PRESS) -

The BNG deputy in Congress, Néstor Rego, has shown this Tuesday his support for the repeal of the crime of sedition and the changes related to embezzlement agreed by the PSOE and ERC, but has advanced that he will vote against this reform of the Code Criminal because, in his opinion, the new crime of aggravated public disorder criminalizes social protest.

In a press conference in the Lower House, Rego explained that he will keep his amendments alive to try to correct this point, but making it clear that "in no way" will he be able to support a proposal that replaces the "anachronistic" crime of sedition with another of disorder. aggravated public that, from his point of view, "criminalizes the exercise of the right to demonstrate".

In any case, the Galician nationalist deputy has welcomed the agreement reached between the Socialists and ERC on the embezzlement reform which, in his opinion, restores the "gradation" and "proportionality" of the penalties with which the reform approved in 2015 at the request of the PP Government.

Of course, Rego has also indicated that he does not share the new crime of illicit enrichment raised by the PSOE and Unidas Podemos, since he considers "too lax" that the justification of the increase in assets above 250,000 euros is forced, an amount which he judges very high.

He also does not agree that this type is going to be applied only to "authorities", leaving out other people who hold public office, for example, without remuneration. "If you want to fight corruption, you have to be stricter," he warned.
