The associations of victims of terrorism ask to "neutralize any attempt to impose a false story"

MADRID, 21 Ago. (EUROPA PRESS) -

The International Federation of Associations of Victims of Terrorism (IFAVT) has claimed that commemorating the victims of terrorism is not only paying homage and acts of recognition, but rather consists of "neutralizing any attempt to impose a manipulated and false account of the history of terrorism.

In this sense, they stress that "a false account of what really happened, or a reinterpretation of history, only legitimizes terror and the use of violence."

In celebration of the fifth International Day of Commemoration and Tribute to the Victims of Terrorism of the United Nations, the federation has made public some of its claims "so that both society and the media do not forget the victims of terrorism".

"The true history of terrorism must be built with the stories of its victims", highlights the federation, which also considers it "essential" that children and young people know the reality of what happened, and for this it believes it is necessary that the history of terrorism appear in textbooks and for victims to offer their direct testimony in the classroom.

"Only in this way, knowing the story and the emotions of the victims, can we build a healthy society that does not repeat the mistakes of the past and that is clear about who are the victims and who are the executioners," he stresses.

The victims' associations stress that Europe is carrying out important work in the fight against radicalization "but, without a doubt, the focus of attention must be on the victims of terrorism".

"We ask all citizens to fight with us against oblivion, and thus our experience helps build a future free of fear and terror," they underline.

The IFAVT was founded on September 15, 2011 and is made up of a conglomerate of associations of victims of terrorism from around the world, among which is the Association of Victims of Terrorism (AVT).
