The AEB is registered in the registry of 'lobbies' of the CNMC

The Spanish Banking Association (AEB) has just entered the registry of interest groups of the National Commission for Markets and Competition (CNMC).

The CNMC created a register of 'lobbies' in 2016, of a voluntary, public and free nature, to take a further step in terms of good governance and transparency with the creation of an institutional mechanism that makes transparent the external contribution to the activity of the CNMC. CNMC.

The Competition authority considers that interest groups play an important role in the democratic process, accessing institutions, gathering information, defending their situation or urging changes to the legislation that affects them.

To enable this channel and allow a transparent relationship with pressure groups, the CNMC implemented the register of interest groups to limit the possibility of inappropriate influences or those contrary to the general interests indicated in Law 3/2013 creating the body.

The adhesion of companies, associations, consultancies, offices, academic institutions and analysis groups to the registry implies the assumption of an ethical decalogue that includes the principles of action in relations with the members of the CNMC.

The Spanish Banking Association, which has more than 70 member banks representing 62% of the Spanish banking system (including Santander, BBVA, Sabadell or Bankinter), has just registered as a lobbyist for the CNMC, shortly after the landing of its new president, Alejandra Kindelán.

According to the documentation that accompanies its adhesion, consulted by Europa Press, its purpose and objectives are "the representation and defense of the interests of the associated entities, both before the Spanish Public Administrations and in the community and international sphere, participating in particular in the processes of elaboration of the application regulations".

In relation to the CNMC registry, the specific activities of the AEB will consist of participating in the regulatory development processes and in defending and promoting the guarantee of market unity.

It also appears as registered in the register of interest groups of the CNMC Banco Santander, under the purpose of "contributing to the progress of people and companies" and being "the best open platform for financial services, investment services and marketing of insurance".
