The AEB asks unions for more time to prepare a salary review proposal

MADRID, 29 Sep. (EUROPA PRESS) -

The Spanish Banking Association (AEB) has not presented a specific proposal that allows bank employees to deal with the current environment of loss of purchasing power due to the escalation of inflation, but has instead demanded more time to work internally with the banks associates in the salary review formula that will be proposed at the next meeting.

This has been communicated by UGT, CC.OO. and FINE after the meeting held this Thursday within the framework of the sectoral observatory, in which they expected to know the specific proposal of the employers.

"To our surprise, AEB has come with its homework undone and, as promised in the previous meeting, has not presented any specific proposal. On the contrary, they have asked us for more time to work internally with the associated banks in the salary review formula that they will present to us at the next meeting", they pointed out in a joint statement.

The three trade union organizations have spent months demanding the opening of a negotiation to review the collective agreement based on the provisions of article 86.1 of the Workers' Statute.

As they defend, the current scenario differs from the one that existed at the time of the negotiation of the current agreements (negative interest rates, economic prospects of no recovery for another ten years and a global pandemic) and the benefits of banking have risen and will continue to rise with the rise in rates, while the working conditions of the workforce and their purchasing power have deteriorated.

From the unions they maintain that any negotiation must be based on the salary recovery of 2022, the incorporation of a salary review clause in 2022 and 2023 and the review of diets, mileage and teleworking.

"Our proposal is clear and concise. Now AEB just has to work on it and tell us the terms in which it is willing to discuss in order to reach an agreement at the negotiating table of the agreement," the unions have pointed out.

The next meeting will take place on October 21. The agreement reached by the parties will benefit the employees of the banks associated with the AEB, including Santander, BBVA, Sabadell, Bankinter or Deutsche Bank, among others.
