Tesla, the least reliable brand and with the most breakdowns among European drivers, according to OCU

MADRID, 6 Jun. (EUROPA PRESS) -

Tesla is the least reliable car brand, in terms of the number of breakdowns, for 52,430 European drivers who have provided their opinion in a survey conducted by the Organization of Consumers and Users (OCU) in conjunction with four other European associations from Belgium, France , Italy and Portugal.

In a ranking of 36 brands, the North American car company appears in the last position, with 60 points out of a possible 100. Tesla is followed by Alfa Romeo and Land Rover, with 64 points, respectively; and Jaguar, with 68 points.

The list prepared by consumer organizations collects the opinion of European drivers with their cars, thus revealing the most reliable makes and models, or what is the same, those that suffer fewer breakdowns and of a milder nature, excluding those derived from an accident.

The good results in reliability, published in June's Compra Maestra magazine, fall once again on Japanese and Korean manufacturers, which hold seven of the top ten positions, led by Lexus (95), Subaru (93) and Toyota. (91).

Among the European manufacturers, Seat and Dacia stand out, with 85 points each, and Skoda, with 84 points.

By type of engine, the models with the fewest breakdowns are non-plug-in hybrid cars. In fact, there are up to ten models above a reliability score of 95 out of 100. Gas engines (LPG or CNG), as well as electric ones, still do not have such a wide range of fail-safe cars, according to the report.

However, the most reliable model among the 523 car versions included in the survey is a diesel one: the Volkswagen T-Roc 1600 Diesel (2017 version). Two hybrids follow, such as the Toyota Corolla 2000 Hybrid Gasoline (2018 version) and the Lexus IS 2500 Hybrid Gasoline (2013 version). In the queue, the Renault Espace 1600 Diesel (2015 version) and the Opel Astra 1500 D (2015 version).

The survey also reveals what the driver spends on car maintenance when he takes it to the official workshop. The differences are undoubtedly significant: compared to a cost of between 114 and 150 euros per year for motorists of the Hyundai, Dacia and Renault brands, to more than 300 euros per year for those who have a Mercedes-Benz, Audi or Volvo vehicle . Likewise, the most common failures are electrical (17%), followed by those that affect the braking system (13%).
